Newcastle's Brandon Miele helped the Republic of Ireland to record a friendly win over the Czech Republic at under-19 level

By Dan King - Newcastle United Club Reporter

The Republic of Ireland's under-19s registered an impressive friendly win over the Czech Republic on Tuesday evening, with Newcastle's Brandon Miele involved for the Boys in Green.

Paul Doolin's side had finished joint top of their qualifying group in the European Championships last year and took on the Czechs at Flancare Park, Longford as they prepare for more competitive action in June.

They won 2-1 and midfielder Miele, 18, was a 57th minute substitute. It was a third under-19 cap for the youngster, who has made six Barclays Under-21 Premier League appearances this term having been part of Dave Watson's title-winning under-18s side last term.

Ireland will play the same opponents in another friendly on Thursday night, this time in Athlone.
