Written by Newcastle Utd

By Dan King - Newcastle United Club Reporter

The Club can confirm that midfielder Mehdi Abeid has joined Scottish Premier League club St. Johnstone on loan until the end of the season.

Algerian ace Abeid, who signed for Newcastle from Lens in the summer of 2011, has yet to play in the Barclays Premier League for the Magpies but has appeared five times in cup competitions.

This term the 20-year-old featured in the Europa League against Maritimo and Bordeaux as well as this month's 2-0 FA Cup defeat to Brighton, having made his debut at Nottingham Forest in the Carling Cup last season.

His manager at the Perth-based outfit will be former Northern Ireland international Steve Lomas and he becomes the third Newcastle youngster to move north of the border on a temporary basis.

Paul Dummett and Conor Newton are at St. Mirren - who will host Abeid's new club in the William Hill Scottish Cup fifth round on Saturday.
