St. Mirren followed up their weekend Scottish League Cup semi-final win over Celtic with a crucial league victory over Inverness Caledonian Thistle on Wednesday night, with Newcastle youngster Conor Newton making his third appearance for the Buddies.
The 21-year-old, so impressive at Hampden Park on Sunday, again played 90 minutes for Danny Lennon's side as they moved 14 points clear of the Scottish Premier League's relegation place, occupied by Dundee.
Newton's displays have already seen the Saints supporters conjure up a chant for the former Whickham Comprehensive School pupil: "We love you Conor because you've got red hair, we love you Conor because you're everywhere, we love you Conor, I want ginger hair too."
And it was the ginger general who provided the assist for Steven Thompson's 82nd minute winner. Esmael Concalves had given the Buddies the lead but Billy McKay equalised from the spot just before half-tim
On Tuesday night, meanwhile, Jonathan Mitchell played for Workington as they lost 3-0 at home to Gainsborough. The young goalkeeper was watched by Newcastle's Academy Goalkeeper Coach, Chris Terpcou and did well despite his side's defeat.
