ACON: Another Victory For Tiote

Written by Newcastle Utd

Cheick Tiote helped Ivory Coast maintain their 100 per cent record in the Africa Cup of Nations, as they eased to a 3-0 victory over Tunisia on Saturday.

United's midfield enforcer was a substitute for their first Group D fixture earlier in the week, but played the full 90 minutes this time round with goals from Gervinho, Yaya Toure and Didier Ya Konan all but booking the Elephants a place in the quarter-finals of the competition.

Tiote saw a sixth-minute strike from distance saved by Tunisia goalkeeper Moez Ben Cherifia, and Ivory Coast took a deserved lead midway through the half when Arsenal forward Gervinho played a one-two with Lacina Traore before providing a clinical finish.

And two late goals sealed maxiumum points for Tiote and Co. First, Man City's Yaya Toure curled home from 20 yards, before substitute Konan put the result beyond any doubt by netting with his first touch.

Ivory Coast top Group D with six points from their two fixtures and play their final group game on Wednesday against Algeria (5pm kick-off).
