Midfielder Conor Newton made his senior debut as he started for St. Mirren in their televised match against Ross County.
But the Buddies were beaten 4-1 in Paisley with the 21-year-old from Newcastle playing the first 45 minutes before being replaced by Dougie Imrie at half-time, having came close to scoring early on.
The hosts fell behind in the lunchtime kick-off to a stunning free-kick from Richard Brittain but equalised five minutes into the second half through the talismanic Steven Thompson.
However, Sam Morrow siezed upon a defensive error in the 67th minute and then Ivan Sproule added the third and fourth to complete the rout as Lewis Guy missed a penalty in the last minute to cap a miserable day for Danny Lennon's side.
Newton was the only Magpies loanee in action on Saturday as the weather took its toll on the weekend's fixtures.
Bradden Inman's Crewe saw their home meeting with MK Dons called off while Bradford's game at Port Vale suffered the same fate, meaning no match for Curtis Good.
And JJ Hooper and Jonathan Mitchell were also left frustrated as Workington's clash at Bradford Park Avenye was postponed.
