Pardew's New Year's Resolution

Alan Pardew is determined to get 2013 off to the best possible start - with three points against Everton

By Anthony Marshall - Newcastle United Club Reporter

Alan Pardew is determined to get 2013 off to the best possible start - with three points against Everton at St. James' Park on Wednesday night (8pm kick-off).

Before their defeat at the hands of Chelsea on Saturday, the Toffees were unbeatne in seven and are currently well-placed for a push towards the Premier League's European places in the latter part of the campaign.

Manager Pardew is wary of the threat which in-form Everton will pose, but believes United can turn their recent encouraging performances into maximum points.

"Everton have had a great 2012," said Newcastle's boss.

"I think I saw a stat which said they were the third best Premier League team in the calendar year.

"We played them at the back-end of last season when we were on a roll and they beat us. So we know how strong they are and would not underestimate them.

"But at Manchester United on Boxing Day and for 70 minutes against Arsenal we played as well as we have.

"We've just got to continue that, tighten ourselves up a little bit and we will be okay."
