Conor Newton

Young midfielder Conor Newton has joined Scottish Premier League side St. Mirren on loan until the end of the season.

The 21-year-old, who has been with Newcastle since the age of nine, was part of Alan Pardew's squad for Europa League group games against Maritimo at home and Bordeaux away, although missed out on a place on the bench on each occasion just as he did when he was called into the first-team group for a Barclays Premier League home game with Everton in March 2011.

He missed most of last season with a knee injury but has been a regular for Willie Donachie and Peter Beardsley's under-21 side this term. He has spent the last few weeks training with St. Mirren.

The hard-working Geordie, who can also play at right-back, has been granted clearance to make his Saints debut at home to Kilmarnock on Wednesday.

Newton will join up with Magpies team-mate Paul Dummett in Paisley. Dummett joined the Buddies on loan in August and his loan spell expires later this month, but St. Mirren are hoping to agree an extension following the left-back's impressive performances.
