Mike Dean

It was no real consolation, but when Newcastle's disappointed players and fans trooped out of Old Trafford on Boxing Day they did at least know that they had contributed to one of the most dramatic and exciting matches the Barclays Premier League has seen for some time.

The Magpies took the lead three times before the home side took all three points with a late, late goal from Javier Hernandez but there were plenty of talking points besides that.

James Perch put Alan Pardew's team ahead after just four minutes before Jonny Evans equalised, but then the Manchester United defender put through his own goal with referee Mike Dean eventually awarding the goal after consultation with an assistant.

There was still time for Sylvain Marveaux to hit the bar before, in the second half, Patrice Evra levelled again only for Papiss Cisse to strike for the Magpies. Robin Van Persie made it 3-3 but still the visitors attacked, with Sammy Ameobi hitting a post before the Reds stole it in the last minute.

It was heartbreaking but it's all worth watching again and nufcTV subscribers can see the highlights by clicking on the button below.
