Shola Makes Nigeria Bow

Written by Newcastle Utd

It was a case of Miami nice for Shola Ameobi as he made his international debut at the Marlins Park Baseball Stadium and set up a goal

By Dan King - Newcastle United Club Reporter

Shola Ameobi made his international debut at the age of 31 as he helped Nigeria to a 3-1 victory in Miami.

The Newcastle striker, who was born in Zaria before moving to Newcastle as a child, set up a goal in the friendly against Venezuela in the early hours of Thursday morning UK time.

Ameobi appeared on the hour mark at the Marlins Park Baseball Stadium and in stoppage time, he brought the ball down superbly before laying the ball off to Lazio Ogenyi Onazi to slot home.

The former Walker Central Boys Club player, who made his Magpies debut more than 12 years ago, had previously won 20 caps for England at under-21 level.
