Teenage striker Adam Campbell will be sidelined for two months after suffering a practice match injury to his knee.

The 17-year-old, who made his first-team debut against Atromitos in the Europa League fourth qualifying round first leg in August, missed the under-21s' defeat to Manchester United on Monday night and is likely to be ruled out until January.

He initially played on after treatment following a collision in a friendly with Sunderland at the Academy of Light at the end of October.

But he came off at half-time in the game when the extent of the injury became apparent. Campbell has scored five goals in seven Barclays Under-21 Premier League appearances this term.

Fellow youngster Alex Nicholson is also currently out of action after being stretchered off in the second-string win over Stoke last month.

The Wales under-19 international full-back suffered deep bruising to his shin and is also eyeing a January comeback.
