Members of the British Army, Royal Navy and Royal Air Force will have free access to Premier League games this weekend
More than 1,000 members of the British Army, Royal Navy and Royal Air Force will have free access to Premier League grounds over the Remembrance period courtesy of Tickets For Troops.
The celebratory weekend also highlights the ongoing work of the 20 Barclays Premier League clubs in this area, as over 20,000 match tickets will be given away during the 2012/13 season as part of the initiative.
The Premier League and its 20 clubs have been involved with Tickets For Troops since the 2009/10 season and allocate courtesy tickets for selected home matches to serving members of the British Armed Forces, and all those medically discharged from the Forces since the commencement of military action in Afghanistan in 2001. More than 50,000 tickets have been given away to date.
The Premier League is also supporting the work of Tickets For Troops by donating perimeter board and match programme space to the charity, as well as making stadium announcements.
Richard Scudamore, Premier League Chief Executive, said: "Our clubs are proud to support Tickets For Troops and it is heartening that over 50,000 Barclays Premier League tickets have been given to members of the Armed Forces over the last four seasons.
"We also have a longstanding relationship with British Forces Broadcasting Service (BFBS), where the Premier League provides free TV and radio rights to Barclays Premier League games.
"Tickets For Troops is an excellent addition to this as it ensures members of the Armed Forces can see the action for real when they can get a chance. I'd like to thank the 20 Barclays Premier League clubs for again generously donating over 20,000 match tickets this season."
Tickets For Troops Chairman, Lord Marland, added: "The support Tickets For Troops has received from the Premier League and the Premier League clubs since the charity was established three years ago has been overwhelming and I must thank them for their continued commitment in getting behind our troops, especially at this time of year when our servicemen and women are even more in our thoughts.
"This generosity is a huge testament to the courageous, challenging and dangerous work that the wonderful men and women of our Armed Forces tirelessly do each day on the country's behalf."
