St. Mirren travelled to Easter Road full of confidence after progressing to the semi-finals of the Scottish League Cup in midweek, but Hibernian ended the day top of the table with a 2-1 win.
On-loan Newcastle full-back Paul Dummett made his ninth appearance for the Buddies and played the full 90 minutes - unlike his captain, Jim Goodwin, who was sent off to leave the Saints with ten men.
Kenny McLean gave Dummett's side the lead on 32 minutes but Leigh Griffiths - the league's top scorer - netted in each half.
The equaliser came on 37 minutes when Griffiths smashed home at the far post and the winner came with a superb 20 yard drive after a good run.
Then came Goodwin's sending off for a second bookable offence as St. Mirren remain second bottom of the table. They host Aberdeen next weekend.
