Tom Heardman

Big striker Tom Heardman could make his first appearance of the campaign when the under-18s take on Tottenham this weekend.

The 6ft 4ins frontman - who made two substitute appearances at the end of last term - has been sidelined with injury since pre-season but has been named in Dave Watson's squad for Saturday's match at the Hotspur Way training ground in Enfield (kick-off 11am).

Alex Gilliead and Freddie Woodman both return after missing last week's defeat to Southampton due to being away with England, while defender Kyle Cameron is also involved having made his international debut against Wales on Thursday night.

Woodman is one of three goalkeepers in the 17-man party which left Newcastle on Friday, with Jonathan Mitchell and Sam Busby the others.

United were beaten 4-0 by Spurs on the opening day of the Premier Academy League season but the young squad has gained in experience and confidence since then and will hope to provide a tougher test this time.

The squad is: Jonathan Mitchell, Tom Heardman, Lewis Aird, Lee Desmond, Freddie Woodman, Jonathyn Quinn, Greg Olley, Ryan McKinnon, Macauley Booth, James Morgan, Alex Gilliead, Jamie Sterry, Kyle Cameron, Dan Barlaser, Mechack Kanda, Adam Armstrong, Sam Busby.
