At the Stadium of Light

Shola Ameobi starts for Newcastle United in the Tyne-Wear derby away at Sunderland on Sunday afternoon (1.30pm kick-off).

The big front man has netted seven goals against the Black Cats in his long black and white career, and is handed his first Premier League start of the season as United travel to the Stadium of Light.

Ameobi's inclusion is one of four changes from the Magpies' 3-0 defeat against Manchester United last time out - the others seeing goalkeeper Tim Krul, full-back Danny Simpson and captain Fabricio Coloccini return.

The unlucky quartet of Steve Harper, Shane Ferguson, James Perch, and Papiss Cisse all find themselves among the substitutes.

Newcastle United (4-4-2): Tim Krul; Danny Simpson, Mike Williamson, Fabricio Coloccini (c), Davide Santon; Hatem Ben Arfa, Yohan Cabaye, Cheick Tiote, Jonas Gutierrez; Shola Ameobi, Demba Ba

Substitutes: Steve Harper, Shane Ferguson, James Perch, Steven Taylor, Vurnon Anita, Gabriel Obertan, Papiss Cisse

Referee: Martin Atkinson (Yorkshire)
