With the Tyne-Wear derby less than 48 hours away, Newcastle United have been strengthened by the return of three key players.

Captain Fabricio Coloccini is back in contention following a hamstring injury, while defender Steven Taylor and goalkeeper Tim Krul are also available for selection having recovered from respective calf and elbow complaints.

The trio are all important figures in the Magpies' rearguard and manager Alan Pardew is delighted to be able to call upon them with some crucial fixtures on the horizon.

"We are in great shape, we have some big-name players back in and around the group and I think that's given us all a bit of a boost," he explained.

"Steven Taylor is training, Coloccini is training, Tim Krul is training - and that strengthens our hand. I would say that they are all available for selection.

"It is a big week, not only have we got Sunderland but we've also got a big Europa League game and then West Brom after that."
