Curtis Good featured for Australia Under 20s on Thursday, but could not prevent them from slipping to a 2-1 friendly defeat against their Portugal counterparts.
Good was a late addition to the Young Socceroos' squad for a training camp in Portugal, which includes two matches against the host nation.
The first of those came on Thursday in Lisbon, and Good - signed from Melbourne Heart in the summer - will have made a decent impression on national boss Paul Okon.
It was the defender's assist midway through the second half, that allowed Adam Taggart to equalise, shortly after Joao Mario had put Portugal ahead.
But with time running out, the Portuguese grabbed a winner through Aladje.
The sides will meet again on Sunday.
Academy defender Lubomir Satka played the full 90 minutes for Slovakia's Under 19s as they triumphed 5-0 against Kazakhstan.
The Group 8 European Championships qualifier saw Satka wear the number two shirt in Sarajevo, and the youngster played a key role in helping his nation keep a clean sheet as they cruised to all three points.
Brandon Miele was part of the Republic of Ireland Under 19 side that recorded a 5-2 victory over Luxembourg in a European Championships qualifier.
The teenage midfielder was a second half substitute in the Group 5 fixture in Hesperange, replacing Kealan Dillon after 76 minutes.
Michael Drennan struck a hat-trick for the Irish, with captain Tommy Hoban and Sam Byrne also on target in the comfortable win.
