Anthony Taylor will take charge of Newcastle United's trip to Manchester United in the third round of the Capital One Cup on Wednesday night (7.45pm kick-off).
It will be the Manchester-based official's fifth game of the season, having overseen one League One and three Premier League fixtures.
In those matches Taylor has issued eight yellow cards and sent off one player - Swansea's Nathan Dyer at the weekend.
The 33-year-old refereed one Magpies game during the 2011/12 campaign - our 3-2 home defeat against West Bromwich Albion just before Christmas - and booked Fabricio Coloccini on that December afternoon.
Taylor started refereeing in the Northern Premier League in 2002, and worked his way up through the divisions before being appointed to the Football League list at the start of the 2006/07 season.
His first Premier League appointment came in February 2010, when Fulham beat Portsmouth 1-0, and the whistler was promoted to the Select Group of Referees for the start of the following term.
On Wednesday night at Old Trafford, Taylor will be assisted by Jake Collin and Ron Ganfield, with Chris Foy the game's fourth official.
