Rapid winger Romain Amalfitano believes he is adapting just as quickly to English football, after making his full Newcastle United debut on Thursday night.
The summer signing played 76 minutes away in Maritimo as the Magpies picked up a point in their opening Group D fixture.
Amalfitano - who arrived from Stade de Reims in July - caught the eye with a number of nippy forward forays, which have become a trademark of his United cameos to date.
And the 23-year-old is ensuring he makes an impact both on and off the pitch at his new home.
"It was good," Amalfitano told nufc.co.uk of his full debut in Madeira.
"It was a difficult match for the team because it was so hot and a very hard pitch too, but a draw was a good result for the team.
"For my first start, I thought I was okay - some good, some bad.
"I would like to play much better but I am proud because it is my first game from the start.
"Coming here has been a big change for me, but it has not been a problem to adjust. My heart feels good and I am so happy here.
"I am trying to learn English because it is difficult for me otherwise. It is getting better and will help my integration at Newcastle.
"I am really enjoying it. I feel settled and at home and am ready to play."
