Robert Schorgenhofer will referee Newcastle's Europa League Group D fixture away at Maritimo on Thursday night (6pm kick-off).
The Austrian, who has been officiating since 1991, will be in charge at the Estadio dos Barreiros, as the Magpies' look to get their group stage campaign off to the perfect start.
Schorgenhofer, aged 39, has overseen ten games so far this season, including fixtures in the Champions League, Europa League, Erste Liga and Bundesliga.
During those games he has handed out 56 yellow cards and sent off three players.
On Thursday, Schorgenhofer will be assisted by Alain Hoxha and Matthias Winsauer, with Harald Lechner and Alexander Harkam the additional assistant referees behind each goal.
Roland Brancher will be the game's fourth official.
