United goalkeeper Tim Krul made his first competitive appearance for Holland on Friday, and kept a clean sheet as they ran out 2-0 winners over Turkey.
Krul was given the nod ahead of regular number one Maarten Stekelenburg for the 2014 World Cup qualifier in Amsterdam and had a night to remember as the Netherlands' Group D campaign got off to the perfect start.
Manchester United forward Robin van Persie gave the Dutch a 17th minute lead, and the result was put out of any doubt deep into injury-time through Luciano Narsingh.
Winning his fourth senior cap for the Oranje - the other three coming in friendlies - Krul was largely untroubled by Turkey's attack, and will hoping to keep his place as they travel to Hungary on Tuesday night.
Fellow Magpie Vurnon Anita was named in Holland's provisional squad but didn't make the final cut.
Elsewhere, Newcastle midfielder Yohan Cabaye played 70 minutes for France in their 1-0 Group I victory away in Finland.
Arsenal's Abou Diaby scored the only goal of the game, while Cabaye picked up an early yellow card and was eventually replaced midway through the second half by Blaise Matuidi.
Next up for Les Bleus is a home qualifier against Belarus in Paris on Tuesday evening.
In Group E, Slovenia fell to a 2-0 defeat to Switzerland on their own patch, but young United midfielder Haris Vuckic did not make the bench for the hosts.
