Young Gun's Turkish Delight

Written by Newcastle Utd

Academy starlet Daniel Barlaser has caught the eye of Turkish national team selectors while Alex Nicholson has been called up by Wales

By Dan King - Newcastle United Club Reporter

Newcastle United Academy player Daniel Barlaser has been called up for a Turkish Football Federation training camp later this month.

The 15-year-old wideman, who made his under-18s debut for the Magpies against Tottenham on the opening day of the season, hails from Tyneside but his father is Turkish and he will attend the camp between 17th September and 19th September.

Meanwhile, full-back Alex Nicholson has been selected for the Wales under-19 squad to take on Germany on Monday, 10th September. The friendly is in preparation for European under-19 Championship qualifiers against Slovenia, Sweden and Russia next month.

The 18-year-old - who was born in Newcastle but qualifies through his grandfather - made his Reserve team bow against Manchester United in December 2010 and was a regular for Dave Watson's Premier Academy League Group D title-winning side last season.

He has previously played for Wales at under-16 and under-17 level but this is his first selection for the under-19s.
