United suffered pain in the rain at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening as they went down 2-0 against Chelsea.

But the scoreline failed to reflect an impressive second half display in which the Magpies could have dragged themselves at least level, if not gone on to win the Premier League fixture.

Earlier, Chelsea had raced into a comfortable first half lead, as Eden Hazard stroked home a penalty, before back-heeling into the path of Fernando Torres, who curled home from the edge of the box.

After the break it was almost all Newcastle though. Hatem Ben Arfa drove inches wide, Papiss Cisse nodded over the top and Demba Ba twice forced good saves from Blues keeper Petr Cech.
