After exceeding all expectations last season, Newcastle United start the 2012/13 campaign against rival top-six contenders Tottenham Hotspur.
Just four points separated the teams last season and they look closely matched again this term, with Official Betting Partner Bet Butler making Newcastle 7/4 and Spurs 9/5.
The Magpies were on fire at home last season, losing just once in their final ten home games and just three times in total in front of the Toon Army. By contrast, Spurs won just once travelling to top six teams during 2011/12.
Newcastle look the value pick this weekend at 7/4, but as this fixture has ended as a draw in the last two seasons, the Draw No Bet is more appealing at 19/20.
Sixty per cent of United's home games have seen at least three goals under manager Alan Pardew, including six out of nine games against top six finishers last season. With goals looking likely, over 2.5 match goals appeals at 19/20.
The most likely Newcastle victory is 1-0, rated a 19/2 shot, but with goals expected, Newcastle 2-1 offers the most appeal at 10/1.
Papiss Cisse and Demba Ba are unsurprisingly the mostly likely scorers for the Toon, but Cisse gets the nod in the first scorer market at 5/1, having opened the scoring in six of his 13 starts. We wouldn't bet against Ba scoring at some point though, and this is available at 2/1.
The Spurs danger man could be Aaron Lennon, who has scored in both his starts against Newcastle since 2010/11. He offers some value at 5/1 to be anytime scorer, as does Rafael van der Vaart at 3/1.
