Michael Hoganson has joined Derby County following his summer release by Newcastle.
The former Academy player, who starred in last season's run to the quarter-finals of the FA Youth Cup and was a regular as the Magpies won the Premier Academy League Group D title, has signed a one-year deal with the Championship outfit.
Hoganson, 18, was born in Newcastle and joined the Magpies from Cowgate Boys Club. He broke into the Reserve team towards the end of last season but was not offered a new contract when his two-year scholarship expired.
Northampton tried to sign the left-footer after a successful trial but Deby stepped in and Rams boss Nigel Clough told his club's official website: "We're pleased Michael has decided to join us; he's a young player who has the potential to improve.
"Primarily, we're looking for him to be part of our new under-21 side but he will also provide cover down the left-hand side of the first-team squad."
