United boss Alan Pardew has named an experienced starting line-up for Tuesday night's pre-season friendly at Hartlepool (7.30pm kick-off).
Only teenage defender James Tavernier and summer signings Gael Bigirimana and Romain Amalfitano have not played Premier League football, with the rest of the side racking up hundreds of top flight games between them.
It is expected to be a 4-2-3-1 formation for Newcastle, so James Perch and Bigirimana will provide steel in the middle of the park, with the attack-minded trio of Amalfitano, Dan Gosling and Sylvain Marveaux just ahead.
And Shola Ameobi leads the line for the Magpies, wearing the captain's armband.
Hartlepool include Magpies fan Steve Howard up front, after the ageing front man rejoined the club in the summer from Leicester City. He partners young talent Luke James in attack for the hosts.
