Alan Pardew is "delighted" for captain Fabricio Coloccini over his international recall - even though it could see him in action just three days before Newcastle's opening Barclays Premier League fixture of the season.
La Albiceleste coach Alejandro Sabella has selected the Magpies defender for a friendly against Germany in Frankfurt on Wednesday, 15th August - hardly ideal timing with Tottenham Hotspur coming to the Sports Direct Arena the following Saturday.
But Pardew, aware that Coloccini hasn't played for his country since a 1-0 win over the Republic of Ireland almost two years ago, is pleased to see the Cordoba-born centre-back rewarded for his fantastic displays in a black and white shirt.
"We all know at Newcastle how good he is and he should never have been out of the Argentinian squad," the United boss told nufcTV.
"They've got a new manager and probably that's something to do with it.
"It's difficult for us because he's going to have to do a lot more travelling but on a personal level I'm absolutely delighted for him."
