Sammy Ameobi has been ruled out of Newcastle's pre-season friendly at Hartlepool on Tuesday night.

The England under-21 wideman, who had performed well this summer after recovering from the knee problem which kept him out for the second half of last season, has a minor hamstring strain.

He picked up the injury in the final training session in Portugal and missed Saturday's trip to Den Haag as a result, while it has now been confirmed that he won't play any part at Victoria Park.
