Danny Simpson believes he and his teammates are progressing every day during their pre-season tour of Germany, and that the evidence is there for all to see.
Having slipped to a 1-0 friendly defeat at German third division side Chemnitzer on Friday night, United bounced straight back with a much-improved display and a single-goal victory over Monaco on Monday.
The former Manchester United man was one of only three Magpies stars to play the full 90 minutes at the Hacker-Pschoor-Arena, in Landsberg am Lech - the other two being Steve Harper and Jonas Gutierrez - and Simpson is confident that fitness and performance levels will continue to rise over the next week.
"It was a great result. We obviously lost the other day, so it was nice to get that win as quick as possible," the defender told nufc.co.uk.
"It's about getting fitter as well though and I think you could see that we looked fitter and stronger. I only got 20 minutes against Chemnitzer, so it was nice to get 90 minutes this time and to push myself on.
"We also introduced some of the other lads back into it and we are progressing every day - you can see that for yourself.
"We looked solid, got a clean sheet as well, and that gives us a good platform to build on. We want to be winning games, whether it's friendlies or league games. We had that last year and we want it back straight away.
"There's now five days until our final game of this tour, so that gives us a chance to step it up even more and hopefully by the time we get back we will be flying."
