Alan Pardew

Manager Alan Pardew is predicting a youthful starting line-up for United's opening pre-season friendly against Chemnitzer on Friday evening (6.30pm kick-off local time).

The Magpies arrived in east Germany on Thursday night and underwent a light training session on Friday morning to prepare them for the fixture against their third division opponents at the Stadion an der Gellertstraße.

And Pardew believes this match is a good opportunity for some of the Club's brightest young talents to catch his eye.

"(Training) was a general workout for the players who aren't involved tonight, and a little bit of shape with the team who are actually starting," explained the boss to nufc.co.uk.

"It will be a young side tonight and these young players really need to come through this season, with the Europa League, League Cup, FA Cup and Premier League programme that we've got.

"The big-hitters will start coming in later on in the pre-season, and it gives the younger lads the chance to impress from day one.

"So I will be looking for the (Haris) Vuckic's of this world, Mehdi (Abeid) and Sammy Ameobi to show up well tonight."
