United Heading For Germany And Hungary

Written by Newcastle Utd

Newcastle United can today confirm the first leg of the Club's pre-season schedule, taking in Germany and Hungary

Newcastle United can today confirm the first leg of the Club's pre-season schedule.

The first team squad depart from Tyneside on Thursday afternoon (12th July) and will spend nine days in Germany and Hungary, playing three friendly fixtures which have already been widely reported.

Due to the cancellation of the Vodacom Challenge tournament in South Africa, arrangements for the games in Germany and Hungary were made in less time than desirable, which has resulted in the late confirmation of these matches.

The Magpies begin their friendlies on Friday (13th July) by taking on German third division side Chemnitzer.

Kicking off at 6.30pm (local time), it will take place at their Stadion an der Gellertstraße base.

United will then travel to Munich and train for a few days before facing AS Monaco on Monday, 16th July, at TSV's Landsberg's Hacker-Pschorr-Arena in Landsberg am Lech (7pm kick-off).

Once a big name in French football, Monaco currently ply their trade in the second tier and have appointed Claudio Ranieri as their new manager.

The third match will be on Saturday, 21st July against Turkish giants Fenerbahce in Hungary. It will be played at the Stadium Sopron, kicking off at 7pm.

Later in July, Newcastle travel to Portugal to compete in the Guadiana Torneo, in the Algarve Stadium, near Faro.

However, there has been a change to the details, with original entrants Porto being replaced by SC Braga, and the Magpies will face them on Saturday, 28th July (8.45pm kick-off)

Meanwhile, Newcastle's Reserves will be playing a number of behind-closed-doors friendlies throughout the summer, in addition to their confirmed fixture at Gateshead on Wednesday, 1st August.
