Former Newcastle favourite Peter Lovenkrands has joined Birmingham City following his release by the Magpies.

Danish striker Lovenkrands became Lee Clark's first signing at St. Andrew's after completing a medical with the Blues on Monday.

After three-and-a-half seasons of sterling service on Tyneside, including 29 goals in 55 starts, the 32-year-old was not offered a new deal by Alan Pardew last month.

He was, however, invited to train with the Club last week to maintain his fitness and sharpness and has now signed a two-year contract with Birmingham.

Ex-Rangers and Schalke man Lovenkrands scored 13 league goals in 2009/10 as United won the Championship title to secure a return to the top flight. He netted three times last term, all in the Carling Cup.

Clark, another popular former Newcastle player, was appointed Birmingham's manager at the end of last month.

Meanwhile Jonathan Woodgate, who was at St. James' Park between 2003 and 2004, has rejoined hometown club Middlesbrough after leaving Stoke.
