John Carver has been impressed by Romain Amalfitano's early days at Newcastle United - particularly the midfielder's attitude.
Amalfitano arrived earlier in the summer from Stade de Reims and joined up with his new teammates for the first time last week as they returned to pre-season training.
The squad took part in running, ball work, circuit training and boxing among other things, and Magpies' assistant manager Carver told nufc.co.uk he likes the look of the 22-year-old's never-say-die mentality.
"Romain looks a technical player, which you would expect," he explained.
"We haven't done anything extravagant over big areas yet, and that's when the big test comes, but he's mixed in with the group well.
"He's not the best boxer though - I don't think the French guys are that keen on the boxing. However, he had a go at it, and the one thing Romain did is he stayed with it for 45 minutes and didn't give up.
"That is a very good trait to have which will stand him in good stead at this Club."
