The 147th Tyne-Wear derby between Newcastle and Sunderland will take place on Saturday, 20th October at the Stadium of Light, with the return fixture at the Sports Direct Arena on 13th April, 2013.
And the Magpies will be looking to maintain their excellent Premier League record against the red and whites, having lost just one of the last 15 clashes with the Wearsiders in the top flight.
United took four points off the Black Cats last season following a 1-0 win at the Stadium of Light in August and a nail-biting 1-1 draw against Martin O'Neill's men on Tyneside seven months later.
Ryan Taylor wrote himself into Toon folklore in just the second game of the campaign with a free-kick to remember that turned out to be the winner, while regular derby hero Shola Ameobi grabbed an injury-time equaliser in March.
Since the Premiership began back in 1992, the North-East's top two have met on 20 occasions and it's the Geordies who hold the upper hand, with nine wins to Sunderland's three and eight games drawn.
The biggest of those triumphs came on Halloween in 2010, when a Kevin Nolan hat-trick and a brace from Ameobi secured an emphatic 5-1 victory at St. James' Park.
And after some truly memorable ties over the years, the countdown to one of the most hotly anticipated matches of the season is now on.
