Freddie Woodman

Newcastle United teenage goalkeeper Freddie Woodman has been called up by England Under 17s for this summer's Nordic Tournament.

The 15-year-old - son of Magpies' goalkeeping coach Andy Woodman - is part of an 18-man squad for the trip to the Faroes Island from August 6th-11th, selected by England Under 16 Head Coach Kenny Swain.

The squad will be made up of players from last season's Under 16s group along with uncapped players, in preparation for the forthcoming Under 17 level campaign.

Woodman had an eventful first season on Tyneside last term, making his debut for the Reserves in a friendly away at York, aged just 14. He was a regular in between the sticks for the Club's Under 16 side, reached the quarter-finals of the Nike Cup and also lifted the Victory Shield for England Under 16s.

Fixture dates and groups for the Nordic Tournament are yet to be confirmed, but also competing alongside England are Faroe Islands, Finland, Iceland, Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Norway Under 19s, who have entered following Scotland's withdrawal.
