There will be no Wembley appearance for Alan Smith this season, after MK Dons failed to progress to the League One play-off final.
The Dons triumphed 2-1 away at Huddersfield on Tuesday night in the second leg of their semi-final, but it wasn't enough to book a place at the national stadium later this month as they went down 3-2 on aggregate.
Smith was a late substitute for the visitors at the Galpharm Stadium, and netted in injury-time with a diving header at the far post for his second Dons goal since joining the club on loan at the end of January.
Earlier, prolific Huddersfield striker Jordan Rhodes opened the scoring with his 40th goal of the season, before Daniel Powell levelled things up from the edge of the area with a sweet strike.
The defeat brings to an end Smith's loan spell in Milton Keynes, having made 18 appearances for the League One outfit.
