Alex Gilliead and his England under-16 team-mates were denied a place in the final of the Montaigu Tournament in France after a penalty shoot-out defeat to Russia.
After impressing in Thursday's win over Morocco, the striker won his third international cap in Saturday's 2-2 draw.
Kenny Swain's Young Lions went in front thanks to a goal from Arsenal's Jordan Brown but the Russians levelled, before Manchester City's Kean Bryan made it 2-1.
However, with two minutes left Russia equalised for a second time and the match went straight to spot-kicks, with Gilliead having played the whole match.
Both sides scored their first three attempts, but Russia emerged 4-3 winners and England will now play hosts France in the third-fourth place play-off on Monday, while Russia play Portugal in the final.
