Alan Smith

Alan Smith was unable to prevent MK Dons' promotion hopes suffering a slight blip, as they went down 2-1 at home to Carlisle United on Tuesday night.

The midfielder - on loan from United until the end of the season - was a 75th-minute substitute for Luke Chadwick, and Smith's brief cameo coincided with all the action as three goals came in the final ten minutes.

Shaun Williams struck Dons ahead from the penalty spot, after Dean Bowditch had been fouled by Peter Murphy, but Carlisle hit back and Sunderland loanee Jordan Cook notched in the 83rd and 90th minute to give the Cumbrians all three points.

Smith, whose Dons side currently lie fifth in League One, will be hoping to bounce back straight away as they entertain Brentford on Saturday at StadiumMK.
