Seven players who were on duty for Newcastle Reserves against Chelsea on Tuesday night have travelled to the Midlands for the under-18s' Premier Academy League Group D game against Derby.

Marcus Maddison, Steven Logan, JJ Hooper, Brandon Miele and Dan Taylor all played against the Blues at Whitley Park, while Alex Baird and Louis Storey were unused substitute in the 4-2 defeat.

Australian goalkeeper Baird is coming up against his former club, having joined Newcastle from Derby two years ago. Coach Dave Watson also features a trialist, Brad Kilburn, and calls up under-16s skipper Ryan McKinnon for the first time at this level.

England under-16 international Alex Gilliead is again involved, having scored his first under-18s goal in the weekend win over Stoke.

Newcastle are top of the table, two points clear of Leeds with two games in hand. Derby are in fourth place.

When the two sides met at Little Benton in November, the Magpies won 4-3 with Dan Taylor hitting a brace and the other goals coming from JJ Hooper and an Andy Dales own goal.

The squad is: Alex Baird, JJ Hooper, Esteban Cardona Lopez, Steven Logan, Michael Hoganson, Alex Gilliead, Ryan McGorrigan, Ben Sayer, Marcus Maddison, Jonathan Mitchell, Louis Storey, Brad Kilburn, Brandon Miele, Dan Taylor, Jamie Smith, Ryan McKinnon.
