The Magpies have sent young defender Paul Dummett on loan to neighbours Gateshead, and he could make his senior debut on Tuesday night.
Welsh under-21 international Dummett has joined Ian Bogie's side until 3rd April and comes into the reckoning for their midweek home game against Hayes and Yeading.
The Heed were beaten 3-2 by Ebbsfleet at the International Stadium on Saturday, and need to tighten up at the back if they are to stay in the Blue Square Bet Premier promotion shake-up.
Dummett, 20, has yet to play a first-team game for Newcastle but was an unused substitute against Nottingham Forest in the Carling Cup this term and figured in pre-season - including an appearance against Columbus Crew as he joined the squad in America.
He has been with the club since the age of nine and Alan Pardew hopes he will follow the lead of James Tavernier, who came on in leaps and bounds after joining Gateshead on loan last season.
The likes of Joan Edmundsson, Jeff Henderson, Jak Alnwick and Phil Airey have also made temporary moves across the River Tyne during the last two seasons.
Dummett, who can play left-back or centre-half, told nufc.co.uk: "I want to go there, make an impression and hopefully my time there will help me in the long run.
"It will be good to gain experience playing in this league, and hopefully I can help Gateshead win some games."
