Dave Watson's under-18s are looking to bounce back from their FA Youth Cup quarter-final exit when they take on Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday.
United suffered the agony of losing to Blackburn on penalties at the Sports Direct Arena on Monday night, so now turn their attentions back to the Premier Academy League.
They are top of Group D ahead of the 11am kick-off at the Sir Jack Hayward Training Ground, but Wolves will be full of confidence after drawing 3-3 at Manchester United last weekend.
Adam Campbell, who has missed Newcastle's last two games. is still absent with an ankle injury while skipper Remie Streete is rested ahead of two Reserve team games next week.
That could mean a start for Will Turton, who has impressed as a substitute in recent weeks, while Jamie Smith and Alex Kitchen are also in contention to partner ever-present Louis Storey at centre-back.
Dennis Knight starts a three-match ban following his red card against Sunderland in the last league game but Steven Logan has recovered from the head injury he received against Blackburn.
