Dummett Returns For Cup Semi-Final

Paul Dummett could make his return from injury as United's Reserves take on Bedlington Terriers in the Northumberland Senior Cup semi-final

By Anthony Marshall - Newcastle United Club Reporter

Paul Dummett could make his return from injury on Tuesday night as Newcastle United Reserves take on Bedlington Terriers in the semi-final of the Sage Northumberland FA Senior Cup.

The left-sided defender has been sidelined for nearly fourth months with an ankle injury, but has been named in the Magpies' squad for the cup tie, which will take place at Whitley Park in Benton, kicking-off at 7.30pm.

Dummett, aged 20, is one of the more senior members of a youthful squad named by second string manager Willie Donachie.

Only defender Tamas Kadar has had competitive first team experience, and the Hungarian international was also an unused substitute on Saturday as Newcastle were defeated 1-0 at Brighton in the FA Cup.

Academy midfielder Steven Logan is also in the squad, and could make his Reserve team debut on Tuesday, having yet to step up from the bench so far, while striker Phil Airey is included as the terms of his loan spell at Gateshead allow him to appear.

The Magpies are the current holders of the Senior Cup, having defeated Blyth Spartans 4-0 in the last season's final.

They beat Ashington 2-0 at the quarter-final stage in November, thanks to two goals from Bradden Inman, while Bedlington won 2-0 at Morpeth in the last eight. Team Northumbria host Newcastle Benfield in the other semi-final tie.

If level at 90 minutes, extra-time will be played, but there will be no penalty shoot-out if the teams are still tied at the end of that - with the game instead being replayed at a later date.

Entrance at Whitley Park is £4 for adults and £2 for concessions, in line with competition rules. Season tickets holders and Club Members do not gain free entry.

Philip Airey, Jak Alnwick, Alex Baird, Ryan Donaldson, Paul Dummett, Joan Edmundsson, Jeff Henderson, Tamas Kadar, Steven Logan, Greg McDermott, Ryan McGorrigan, Yven Moyo, Alex Nicholson, Patrick Nzuzi, Remie Streete, Daniel Taylor
