Alan Pardew insists there is more to come from youngsters Haris Vuckic and Mehdi Abeid, but believes the pair will benefit from their recent first team showings.
The teenage duo have both been handed starts by the manager - Vuckic's coming in the league, with Abeid starting a couple of cup games - having caught Pardew's eye in training.
And while he was pleased with their contributions, the boss is confident they will be able to offer much more to Newcastle's fortunes over the second half of the season.
"Mehdi and Haris have now both had games - Haris against West Brom and Liverpool, and Mehdi against Nottingham Forest and Blackburn," said Pardew
"Both of them are better than what they've shown, because they were a bit nervous and not quite sure, and a little bit negative in their thinking.
"But, trust me, they will learn from the experience they have gained in these games, and they will be big players for us. I like those two, a lot."
