Tiote: "It's Great To Be Back"

Cheick Tiote spoke to nufc.co.uk after making his return from a knee injury against Swansea City

Cheick Tiote was delighted to pull on the black and white striped shirt again after eight weeks on the sidelines.

The midfielder made his return from a knee injury against Swansea City on Saturday as Newcastle picked up a point with a goalless draw at the Sports Direct Arena.

And Tiote told nufc.co.uk it was great to go straight back into the cut and thrust of the Premier League after almost two months without a match.

"Yes it's good to be back because I haven't played for a long time," said the Ivory Coast international, who last featured in the home victory over Wigan.

"I was happy today to play. It was good.

"You have to get back into the game straight away. You cannot wait to get into the game.

"I needed to work for the team and for my midfield partner Yohan Cabaye, because it has been a long time since I have been alongside him."

It was one-way traffic for long spells on Saturday as United dominated, without managing to find a way past impressive Swans keeper Michel Vorm.

But Tiote is keen to take this point into Wednesday night's game against West Bromwich Albion and pick up all three against the Baggies.

"We played well today and I thought we deserved to win," said the midfielder.

"But football is not fair all the time, because we didn't win.

"We created so many chances and were unlucky not to score a goal. That is football, and on another day we could have scored three or four.

"We have one point, not three, but we are now only thinking about West Brom. We need to move on now and just think about the next game on Wednesday."
