Santon To Star For Second String

Written by Newcastle Utd

Italian international Davide Santon will play for Newcastle's Reserves against Everton on Tuesday afternoon

By Dan King - Newcastle United Club Reporter

Davide Santon will make his third Reserve team appearance since his August arrival from Inter Milan when Newcastle's second-string take on Everton on Tuesday.

The Italian international has been kept out of the side by Ryan Taylor's fine form this term, so will get some more minutes under his belt against the Toffees at United's Benton training centre.

Kick-off is 2pm but there is no admission for the general public, although there will - as ever - be live updates on nufc.co.uk.

Santon has previously played in the 6-0 win over Norwich and 5-3 victory at Swansea, and Newcastle can return to the top of the Barclays Premier League North with a win or a draw. Following their first defeat of the season at Sunderland last week, Manchester United overtook them on goal difference.

Goalkeeper Rob Elliot is also in former Everton assistant manager Willie Donachie's squad, while Haris Vuckic and Tamas Kadar boast additional first-team experience with the Magpies.

But midfielder Ben Sayer - who turned 18 last week - is in line for a Reserve team debut while fellow Academy starlets Alex Nicholson, Michael Riley, Remie Streete, Brandon Miele, Adam Campbell, JJ Hooper and goalkeeper Alex Baird are also involved.

The squad is: Rob Elliot, Alex Baird, Alex Nicholson, Davide Santon, Michael Riley, Remie Streete, Tamas Kadar, Bradden Inman, Brandon Miele, Ben Sayer, Michael Richardson, Samuel Adjei, Joan Edmundsson, Adam Campbell, Haris Vuckic, JJ Hooper.
