Gateshead beat local rivals Blyth to reach the second round of the FA Cup on Saturday - with Newcastle goalkeeper Jak Alnwick recording his second clean sheet in five games for the Heed.

Both shut-outs have come in this competition as he also kept out Hebburn in the fourth qualifying round, and the victory at Croft Park came thanks to goals from Jon Shaw and Micky Cummins.

Jeff Henderson, who has extended his loan spell with Ian Bogie's side for a further month, appeared as a 79th minute substitute at Croft Park.

But Chesterfield - where Ole Soderberg is currently on loan - are out of the cup after a 3-1 home loss to Torquay, who are a division below the Spireites.

Danny Stevens forced home after 20 minutes but Jordan Bowery equalised. However, Rene Howe restored the Gulls' lead as he rounded Soderberg and Kevin Nicholson beat the Swede with a 25-yard free-kick with two minutes remaining.

It was Soderberg's third game for Chesterfield and each one of them has been in a different competition. His debut against Yeovil came in League One before he played in a 4-3 Johnstone's Paint Trophy win over Tranmere last week. However, he will not now be playing in any more FA Cup games for the Spireites this season.
