Jonas Gutierrez came off the bench for Argentina as they started their World Cup qualification campaign with a comfortable victory.

In the early hours of Saturday morning, La Albiceleste were 4-1 winners over Chile in Buenos Aires, thanks to a hat-trick from Gonzalo Higuain and a first-half effort from captain Lionel Messi.

Newcastle winger Gutierrez replaced Angel Di Maria in the 85th minute of the clash to win his 22nd international cap.

Elsewhere on Saturday, United Reserve team defender Tamas Kadar played the full 90 minutes for Hungary Under 21s as they suffered a 2-1 defeat away at Turkey in a Euro 2013 qualifier. Hungary are yet to pick up a point from three Group Seven matches.

Paul Dummett was an unused substitute as Wales Under 21s beat Montenegro 1-0 at the Racecourse Ground, Wrexham.

Daniel Alfei's 58th minute penalty was the difference between the sides, and leaves Wales sat third in Group Three, with six points from three games, and just a point off leaders Armenia

Academy full-back Lee Toland was part of the Northern Ireland Under 19 side which beat Belarus 3-1 on Saturday.

Goals from Shay McCartan, Ryan McLaughlin and Michael McLellan sealed the victory and, having already faced Germany on Friday night, their mini-tournament concludes on Tuesday against Montenegro.
