Loan Watch: Winning Start For Tav

Written by Newcastle Utd

James Tavernier is on the winning side on his debut for Carlisle, but Michael Richardson's Leyton Orient lose

By Dan King - Newcastle United Communications Officer

James Tavernier made a winning start to life on loan at Carlisle United, as the Cumbrians won 2-0 at Bury.

But Michael Richardson was unable to prevent Leyton Orient from losing 1-0 to Tranmere on what was his home debut for The O's.

Tavernier played the whole game at Gigg Lane, having joined Carlisle on an initial one-month loan during the week.

And he had a comfortable afternoon in defence, helping his new team keep a clean sheet as they won thanks to goals from James Berrett and another loanee, Sunderland youngster Liam Noble.

Meanwhile Newcastle midfielder Richardson had scored for Leyton Orient in the Carling Cup in midweek - his first career goal - but was only named as a substitute on Saturday.

And by the time he was introduced after 79 minutes, his side were a goal down to David Buchanan's 60th minute goal which proved the decisive strike.

Kazenga LuaLua missed Brighton's 1-0 at Portsmouth with a minor hamstring injury.

Xisco and Phil Airey are both in action for their respective clubs, Deportivo La Coruna and Hibernian, on Sunday. Depor are at home to Sevilla, with Hibs facing Kilmarnock.
