Joan Edmundsson

Joan Edmundsson is hoping for another shock as Faroe Islands prepare to take on Northern Ireland in a European Championships qualifier.

The Newcastle youngster helped his country gain a 1-1 draw against the Ulstermen last October in his hometown of Toftir, and he is again likely to start in the Group C clash at Windsor Park on Wednesday evening.

The Faroes won their last qualifying match 2-0 against Estonia in June - although Edmundsson missed that one through suspension - while Northern Ireland need three points to maintain their slim hopes of qualifying for the tournament in Poland and the Ukraine.

Edmundsson had the honour of scoring the first goal of the entire Euro 2012 qualification campaign when he gave his side a 28th minute lead against Estonia last August.

And although few Magpies fans have had the opportunity to watch the 20-year-old, who plays in midfield or attack but still awaits his first-team debut, they can see him in action on Sky Sports 1. Kick-off is 7.45pm.

Meanwhile, Yohan Cabaye is in the France squad for their friendly against Chile in Montpelier but Tim Krul is back on Tyneside after Holland's Wembley meeting with England was postponed.
