Michy Joins O's On Loan

Written by Newcastle Utd

Young midfielder Michael Richardson has joined League One Leyton Orient on loan from Newcastle

By Dan King - Newcastle United Communications Officer

Midfielder Michael Richardson is to join Leyton Orient on an initial one-month loan from St. James' Park.

The 19-year-old joined Newcastle last summer from Walker Central, following a successful trial, but so impressive was his form for the Academy and Reserve sides that he made the first-team bench on a handful of occasions in the second part of last term.

Now, in order to continue his footballing development, the club has agreed to send him to the League One outfit for the first month of the season.

He could now be included in Russell Slade's squad for their first game of the new campaign, away to Walsall.

Last season, Alan Pardew loaned out a number of his young stars including James Tavernier, who benefitted so much from a loan spell at Gateshead that he has regularly featured for United's senior squad in pre-season.

Although primarily a box-to-box midfielder, Richardson has also played at centre-back and right-back in this summer's friendlies.

He was working as an apprentice electrician before joining Newcastle, and signed a new contract at the end of last season after his original 12-month deal expired.
