First-Team Coach John Carver is happy with how things are going as United prepare for their final friendly match

On the eve of Newcastle's final pre-season friendly before the big kick-off against Arsenal, John Carver believes United are "right where we need to be" going into the new campaign.
The Magpies' popular First-Team Coach believes the squad's preparation has been right, with a comfortable win over Darlington and a tough test with Leeds sandwiching the club's three-match tour of the USA.
A number of senior players also figured against Gateshead on Tuesday night and Saturday's glamour match with Italian giants Fiorentina should provide another indication of how the team is gelling.
Ahead of the weekend's game, Carver told nufc.co.uk: "I think we're right where we need to be.
"Lots of players are getting lots of playing time, which is important.
"Now we have a really important game on Saturday against Fiorentina and obviously after that, it's the Arsenal. And I think we are where we need to be."
Four new players have arrived at St. James' Park this summer - Yohan Cabaye, Sylvain Marveaux, Demba Ba and Mehdi Abeid - and each has already shown their qualities.
And Carver still expects at least one more fresh face before the transfer window closes next month.
He said: "We all know that we want to bring one or two players in and I think that will happen.
"But right now we can't wait for the Arsenal game to come around."
